A colouring story for children about a flowering tree commonly seen in Auroville gardens. Imaginative and poetic it will delight children and adults alike. (series PoeTree)
The Poe Tree series was born at the meeting point of an exquisite handmade paper craft using natural leaves and the desire to present the wealth of Auroville trees to children as well as to adults.
The Mother gave each of these trees or flowers a name which expresses their psychic quality. Children and grown-ups will enjoy coloring the pages of this book, the first in the series.
The Bauhinia tree (common name: Butterfly Tree or Purple Orchid Tree. Botanical name: Bauhinia Purpurea) is a tree native to India which blooms over a long period of time. In fall, before the leaves drop, the tree is festooned with many delightfully fragrant blossoms, the narrow purple, pink and lavender petals so arranged as to closely resemble an orchid. In
Tamil it is called Mandarai
The generic name Bauhinia commemorates two Swiss botanists, the Bauhin brothers. The two lobes of the leaf exemplify the two brothers.
The Mother, Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Pondicherry gave the name "Stability in the vital" to this flower. There are many Bauhinia trees in and around Auroville.
